When I first came across this game on the Play Store I was pleasantly surprised. A throwback to my childhood days of trying to build the most magnificant park whilst challenging myself at every possibility.

Ive played the lot. Rollercoaster Tycoon, RCT2 and RCT3 and have had hours of fun creating, testing, planning, saving and building the most amazing parks (in my mind) that I could possibly build.

I decided to download the game based on the many positive reviews and the fact it was free. Of course you can make in app purchases as with most games on the market but I couldn’t turn down a free game, especially something so nostalgic.

Anyway, about the game. Let me start by saying it is nothing like the PC games. If that is what you are wanting from this game, I wouldn’t bother downloading it as you will be disappointed.

The game itself is extremely bright, colourful and inviting. Something that has followed throughout all of the Rollercoaster Tycoon games.

The gameplay is like that of those restaurant story games or Farmville. You build your shops or rides and place them where you want. The use of paths is irrelevant and you have no actual need for them which has left me to just putting all of the shops and business’ in one corner, out of the way so that I can build more queues for my rides (as this helps improve the Buzz rating)

The rides available are varied and detailed but there isn’t as much available as on the PC version. Also the rides have nothing to do with anything other than the ability to increase the average excitement rating of the park and the Buzz rating but doesn’t have any effect on whether you receive customers or not.

One of the main features of the game is the ability to create your own rollercoasters. Unfortunately, what you can actually do with them is limited but you are able to add little add on features such as a camera to take photos on ride, fireworks and splash pools which can help to make your much loved rollercoasters a little more unique. There are, however, a good number of pre-made rollercoasters to choose from and you can also save and share your own rollercoasters with others which a great feature.

One of the biggest features of the game are the scenarios that you are able to partake in. These are set levels that have set goals you need to complete. There are over 30 scenarios (as of writing this post) and they all have different time scales, challenges and rewards which keeps you on your feet and keeps the game from becoming “samey”

Money in this game is extremely easy to come by. Unlike the PC versions of the game I found I always had almost a maximum number of guests (improved by adding hotels) but the amount of guests doesn’t have any relevance to your income. Each shop has an amount of coins it offers per minute or hour and you will receive this regardless of if you have guests or not. So leaving the game over night or throughout the day will reward you with a high amount of income each time you log on. Maybe this is Ok for those that don’t like a challenge but I loved the idea of pricing items on the PC versions RCT and this was a feature this game misses. It’s just too easy to rake in the coins.

Improving the Buzz on Rollercoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile is also very easy to do and provided no challenge which I found rather disappointing too. The way to increase the Buzz is to build rides, add extras and also adding queue lines builds the Buzz level. Broken down rides (that cost nothing to repair) reduce the Buzz but there are no other features like litter or vandalism as per the original games.

So, my thoughts. Well the game is rather enjoyable to start with, but soon becomes extremely samey and repetitive. There is absolutely challenge in this game which is OK for the little ones but anyone who enjoys being tested and using any sort or strategy will not find the challenge in this game.

Overall, a bit of fun for 2-3 minutes a day. Nothing more, not a long term game and not something that I would spend a penny on.
